Goodbye 2016 – Welcome 2017

Am I too late to do a review of 2016? And to maybe share some of my goals for 2017?

Well, I got back home on Tuesday night, so I didn’t really have the time (or energy) to write this post before.

2016 was a pretty decent year for me. After a really long time—or so it seemed—I finally got my work permit and my green card (woo-hoo!). It’s a good thing that the latter came right about the time that I booked my flight to Spain, isn’t it?

And now I say goodbye 2016, you were great. WELCOME 2017! You’re going to be an even more awesome year!

I’ve been thinking about how to do this post. I didn’t want another “here are my 2017 goals” (I pretty much did that last year) and I want to start showing more appreciation for what happens in my life. That includes, not only keep making goals that will keep me motivated and going forward in my life, but also reviewing what happened in the past, learn from mistakes and celebrate wins. Very much like I did in my reverse bucket list post.

Sounds good?

I thought so.

Goodbye 2016, Welcome 2017

Yesterday I was reading the little notes that I put in my success jar—which I really need to update and decorate, because it’s just a marmalade jar right now #letsbereal—and I realized that I need to improve my “celebrate wins” skills. I started the jar in March but I only had a few notes! And some were from the same day #isthatcheating.

So, to start the year off the right foot, let’s celebrate last year’s little wins!

Goodbye 2016

~ Finally got my work permit and green card

~ Left a diner that I was working at

~ Went camping for the first time in years

~ Visited several new places (Richmond, VA; Biloxi, MS; Myrtle Beach, SC)

~ Came back to awesome places (New Orleans, LA; Panama City Beach, FL)

~ Got a camera for my birthday. Sadly, I lost it when we got robbed at home a few months later 🙁

~ Loved learning how to make the camera work and how to take decent pictures

~ Started volunteering as an ESL teacher

~ Started working for that same organization

~ Made new friends—although those friends don’t live in the city anymore 🙁

~ Spent Christmas in Spain!—I got sick, so no pretty pictures…

~ Celebrated my first wedding anniversary

~ Moved to another apartment in a quieter area

~ Learned a lot of new things thanks to my business and the blog. I keep learning new things everyday and that’s the best thing that I could ask for.

~ Took care of several dogs while their owners were away on vacation

~ Read a pretty good amount of books. I don’t know how many because I didn’t keep track—I’m starting to count now—but I ended up with a good feeling

~ Created a couple of photo albums with pictures of my husband and I

~ Hiked Stone Mountain and other parks

~ Created a success jar to keep myself motivated

Goodbye 2016, Welcome 2017

Phew, it took me a while to come up with all these things! One would think that it would be easy to think about things that you did the previous year, but it’s certainly not that easy! Anyways, this is an exercise that I would love to be doing every month as part of my new “be more mindful” practices.

Welcome 2017

Of course, I also have big goals for 2017. For the blog, for my business, for my job and my personal life. Some of those goals are:

~ Drink at least 1.5l of water a day

~ Earn some cash with passive income

~ Be consistent in posting 2-3 times a week on my blog

~ Grow my business to have a minimum steady income

~ Take 10-15 minutes of quiet time a day

~ Make less excuses

~ Read 25 books in the year.

~ Take one or two day trips per month and a weekend trip every couple of months or so

~ Get freaking serious with the gym thing. And eating healthy. I know my body will thank me, and my mind too. Why is it so difficult to achieve this?

~ And, of course, my 30 before 30 and Life Goals are not going to be completed by themselves!

All of these goals are achievable but some of them are a real challenge (I’m looking at you, fitness!). I’m going to do my best to complete all of them. 2017, I’m coming for ya!

What are your biggest accomplishments of 2016? Which are your main goals for 2017?

Question time: Would you guys be interested on me doing some practical posts about living abroad? I feel like I haven’t really spoken about all of it. Also, I would love to read if you want me to write about something in particular. Let me know in the comments!

I think I’m going to do the same as you do, every month think or write about what I did acomplish. I think it’s a great idea =) You can do all of that! Go for it!

It’s great because that way we learn to be more appreciative of what we have instead of focusing on what we don’t have. I just need to sit down and do it! LOL
